After Sony, Star spars with Dish TV by issuing them a disconnection notice over non payment of Subscription Fee

Star has issued disconnection notice to DTH Operator Dish TV over non payment of subscription dues, non signing of interconnect agreement which leads to a non compliance of an agreement signed between the parties.

According to the TRAI Regulations governing interconnection of TV Channels, subscription agreements are supposed to be renewed and signed before the expiry of period of existing interconnect agreements between parties. Further, parties are allowed to issue disconnection notice of 21 days once such interconnect agreements are not executed timely on grounds of non payment of subscription dues.

The matter is likely to come up for hearing before the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal for adjudication on the validity of disconnection and signing of fresh agreement and any such arrangements will have to reconcile with the new TRAI Regulations and Tariff Order that have now come into force after a Supreme Court judgment has upheld a challenge to their vires as unsustainable.
