Apex court Allows Entry of Women of all Ages into Sabarimala Temple
The Supreme Court allowed the entry of women of all ages into the Sabarimala temple. The court held that the right to worship was given to all devotees and there cannot be any discrimination on the basis of one’s gender. While passing his judgment on the doctrine of proportionality as argued vehemently by those in favour of restricted entry into the temple, the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India and other Judges in the Constitutional Bench held that devotees of Lord Ayyappa do not constitute a separate religious denomination and that devotion cannot be subjected to gender discrimination.
